At Primus, the policies we offer are selected deliberately, not broadly.
Only when an insurer meets our standards for contractual clarity, financial strength and legal capability do we make that policy available to our clients. The result is protection that has been examined properly, and cover you can rely on.
Built around you.
Before any insurer joins the Primus Panel, we scrutinise policy wordings in full, meet underwriters directly, and assess financial resilience carefully. We review the legal teams supporting each policy to ensure they have the experience and expertise required to act decisively when it matters.
We also ensure that every policy meets the expectations of the major UK hospital groups, in terms of both contractual structure and required limits of indemnity – so you can practise with confidence from day one.
Once an insurer is approved, the focus shifts to you.
We take the time to understand your indemnity history, your current practice, and how it may evolve, including the work you do, and just as importantly, the work you don’t do.
That level of detail matters. It ensures your cover is structured accurately, without assumptions that can lead to gaps, or unnecessary cost.
The result is protection that reflects the reality of your practice and gives you complete confidence.

Contractual Clarity.
Understanding your indemnity is essential. You need to be sure that if you ever require your indemnity, it is going to be there to support you.
Defence union arrangements operate on a discretionary basis. Contractual insurance, by contrast, clearly defines what is covered and how support is provided.
We believe clarity matters. When cover is set out contractually and arranged through a regulated framework, you know precisely where you stand.
NHS and Private Practice.
Your policy through Primus ensures protection across both your Private and NHS work.
For Private Practice, this includes clinical negligence and associated legal expenses cover, including GMC investigations and inquests.
For NHS work, clinical negligence is provided by NHS Resolution, with your Primus policy offering complementary legal expenses and regulatory protection where required.
The structure is designed to ensure there are no gaps, only total transparency.
